British Equestrian announces first successful applicants to the Together Fund

Monday, 12 September 2022

Following the further release of funding by Sport England, British Equestrian is pleased to announce successful applicants for the Together Fund.

Equestrian centres and groups will receive grants which can be used to support growth and engagement in physical activity. Funding can be awarded for a variety of projects, including those with an aim to increase participation within equestrianism, to reach a wider range of participants or who are still struggling from the impacts of COVID-19- all are welcome to apply for this funding.

There have been 21 applications since the funding was announced a month ago, with both riding schools and non-equestrian based community groups getting involved. Eight of these are currently in the agreement process, while two have successfully completed, both with different projects:

Strength and Learning Through Horses (SLTH)

Equine Assisted Therapy centre based in London, helping to improve mental health and education for young people between four-25 years.

Together Fund project: Two 12-week courses for their young people who have developed a passion for horses after participating in a previous course with SLTH. The courses will help them learn about horse care, training and psychology, as well as achieving qualifications in these areas. The participants will also learn valuable teamwork skills to improve their employability in the future.

Ride High Equestrian Centre

Registered charity with the aim to transform the lives of disadvantaged children and those who find daily life difficult, based in Milton Keynes.

Together Fund project: Will support 24 children, aged eight and over, from low socio-economic backgrounds or who may benefit from SEMH (social, emotional and mental health) support, through their six-week ‘I can’ programme. The aim of this project is to build participants’ confidence, communication skills and resilience each week, whilst enjoying their time with horses in the countryside environment.

“The number and quality of applications we have had so far for the Together Fund has highlighted the great work that is taking place within riding centres and community groups,” commented Adam Hughes, British Equestrian’s Strategic Lead for Relationships. “We would like to encourage anyone who is planning to work with groups who are typically underrepresented in sport and physical activity to attend the drop-in session to find out more about the fund.”
