Rider Profile

Name:
Lara Butler
Location:
Gloucestershire

After joining her local Pony Club, Vale of Aylesbury, Lara began to concentrate on dressage with her pony Mr Sparrow, and joined the British Young Riders Dressage Scheme. She competed at Junior and Young Rider level for Great Britain, while working alongside Emile Faurie.

In 2010, on the completion of her equine science degree, she went to ride for the Bechtolsheimers. During her time there she was given the opportunity to ride Rubin Al Asad (Rufus), who she has been working with now for the past ten years, and Andretti H, with whom she was the British Dressage reserve National Champion in 2012.

Mentored and coached by 2012 Olympian Laura Tomlinson, Lara and Rufus enjoyed some great results at Grand Prix on the international circuit in 2018, including a dream debut at the legendary Aachen CHIO, two runner-up places at Cappeln CDI4* and winning the Rotterdam CDIO5* Grand Prix Special. They were also selected as reserves for the World Equestrian Games in Tryon.
