Annabella Pidgley

Rider Profile

Name:
Annabella Pidgley
Location:
Berkshire

Annabella works and trains from her family's Kilbees Farm in Windsor. Her mother, Sarah, is a dressage rider and judge, and her sister younger competes in eventing. Annabella got her drive from her late father, who worked hard and built his company (Berkeley Group Holdings) from scratch.

Annabella's competition journey began with the Pony Club, where she would often excel in the jumping but struggle in the dressage. This changed when she got a different pony, Farbenfroh, who had just won bronze at the European Pony Championships in 2015 with his former owner Sara van Deurs Petersen. As their partnership developed, Annabella's dressage career started to take off.

Annabella rode at her first international competition in England at the age of 12, and later that year went abroad to Le Mans in France with the same pony. Annabella fell in love with competing then and rode at her first European Pony Championships at 13 years old in 2018, then again in 2019 and 2020 with Cognac IX. In 2020, she stepped up to the Junior Europeans with her mount Belafonte and, in 2021, she became the first British dressage rider to win an individual medal at the European Junior Championships, securing individual and freestyle silvers with Sultan Des Paluds.

She took on Charlotte Dujardin’s Olympic ride, Gio, when she was 17 years old and continues to be trained by Charlotte and Danish Olympian Cathrine Dufour. Annabella made her Senior international debut in December 2022 with Gio, where they finished third in the Grand Prix with a score of 73.630% before taking the win in the Grand Prix Freestyle with 75.085%.

In June 2023, Annabella made her Senior team debut when she was selected with Vamos Amigos to be part of the quartet that represented Great Britain in the Nations Cup at CHIO Aachen. The following month, after producing her third personal best score of the week (80.505%), she secured Freestyle gold to become double FEI Young Rider European Champion in Pilisjászfalu, Hungary, riding her mother’s mare Espe.
