Bates Apex: Revolutionary jump saddle launches with patented technology

Wednesday, 01 April 2026

Bates Saddles today launches the Bates Apex, the biggest evolution in jump saddles, featuring patented FlapLock Technology that eliminates flap movement and actively positions riders for optimal performance.

The Bates Apex has been in development for several years and has already been proven at the highest levels of competition.

Revolutionary patented technology

FlapLock Technology addresses a fundamental challenge in jump saddles: flap movement under the force of the rider's action over jumps. Traditional saddle flaps draw back and up during jumping, creating drag and resistance. FlapLock Technology eliminates this completely, giving riders an immovable cushioned super close contact that actively draws them back into home position.

Elite rider validation

The Bates Apex has achieved immediate conversion among elite riders who tested prototypes:

  • 5* eventer Olivia Barton called it her "good luck charm" after winning bronze at the European Championships at Arville
  • International showjumper Bex Mason won an accumulator class at Onley Grounds—8 seconds faster than the leader—crediting "the security and balance of the apex"

Availability

The Bates Apex launches officially on 1 April 2026. As Bates Saddles' most elusive saddle yet, featuring new, patented technology, the Bates Apex is positioned as the crème de la crème of the range.
