"It’s a little bit like Tokyo on steroids" – World Class Programme athletes react to Burghley's cross-country course

After three years, it’s cross-country morning at the Land Rover Burghley Horse Trials and the air of anticipation is palpable at the iconic Lincolnshire estate. This year sees the debut of new course designer Derek di Grazia, who’s extensive CV includes 11 iterations at Kentucky CCI5* and last year’s Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games. Ahead of the first combination setting out on Derek’s course at 11:30, beautifully built by David Carpenter, Guy Herbert, Chris Morris and William Seely, we’ve compiled the thoughts of a selection of British Equestrian World Class Programme athletes.
