Rider Profile

Name:
Kyrby Brown
Location:
Hertfordshire
Competition Grade:
2

I began riding for therapy at the age of three, but didn't begin competing until 2013 with Sarah Moreland. Sarah offered to lend me a horse for a Lee Pearson clinic held at Oaklands RDA – I was shocked as no one had ever made riding so accessible to me. Not long after that, Sarah encouraged me to get back involved with riding and introduced me to Clive Milkins. Between them, Sarah and Clive showed me a whole new side to riding and that seemed to ignite my stubbornly competitive spirit, and I got a taste of competition at my first ever RDA Nationals in 2015.

In September 2015, I began a degree in Equine Business Management at Writtle University College and, in my second year, decided to buy myself a pony. We soon became members of the British Equestrian Para Equestrian Entry Programme and took part in our first Para Home International and Bronze Championships. However, it wasn’t until I met my current horse, Sam, in December 2016 that I began to seriously campaign on the circuit. In 2017, Sam placed highest in our grade at the Para Home International and proceeded to win the RDA National Championships, and that’s when I knew I had a true para horse as a partner. Together, we went on to gain two more national titles in the Para Home Internationals (also placing highest in our grade) and the Silver Winter Championships in 2018. In 2019, I moved to Monmouth in order to continue chasing my dream, and Sam and I are now under the amazing care of Ride2Achieve at Redbrook Farm, where we train with Jo and Janet Alderton and Clive Milkins.

Outside of riding I enjoy cinema, theatre, and all things nerdy. I am also a qualified proof-reader and have begun training towards my coaching qualifications. I have thrown myself into my riding and wish to begin my international campaign later this year.
