Rule Britannia! World Class Programme athletes take top eight spots after dressage

Badminton Horse Trials, presented by Mars Equestrian, is renowned for being one of the toughest contests in the sport of eventing. Every few years, the challenge becomes even tougher thanks to the addition of inclement weather and deteriorating ground, and this has turned into one of those years. While the forecast rain might have held off yesterday, it was here in force today and saw the main arena – and most of the surrounding site – gradually turn from green to patchy brown. However, that wasn’t enough to stop today’s competitors from putting on a real show – and caused a real shift in the leaderboard. As the dust – or, rather, mud – settles on the first phase of the competition, it’s World Class Programme athletes who hold the top eight spots.
