British Equestrian and British Dressage are aware of media reports and speculation surrounding an athlete. It is our policy not to comment on cases whilst there is an ongoing investigation. However, in light of speculation we feel it is necessary to provide the following statement:
British Equestrian and British Dressage were made aware of a number of safeguarding allegations in relation to an individual in the dressage community in December 2022, which were the subject of initial investigations by statutory agencies.
The individual was arrested in March 2023 and suspended by British Equestrian and British Dressage, and therefore has not been eligible for national or international competition whilst statutory agency investigations were ongoing.
In late June 2024 we were advised that there would be no criminal prosecution.
In accordance with our own safeguarding procedures, the matter is now under active investigation by British Equestrian and the individual remains suspended while this takes place. We can confirm that the suspension does not relate to equine welfare allegations or conduct around non-selection. No further comment will be made until this process is complete.
