European Championships 2019 – Day Six

Friday, 23 August 2019

Two fantastic results today that have left Team GBR in a better place than yesterday. Firstly, through the sheer strength and power of the show jumping team, we have not only won a team bronze medal, but also achieved the qualification to the Tokyo Olympic Games.  I feel that those words should be flashing in lights as it is such a massive achievement and I am so proud of this team being able to focus and give best performances when the pressure is so incredibly high.  I think there will be some celebrating tonight!

The other fantastic result was that of our Para Equestrian Dressage debutant Georgia Wilson who wowed the crowds and judges with a performance that made the hairs stand up on your arm it was so beautiful.  Although her winning score is not eligible for a medal in this test, it will strongly contribute to our team efforts.

Mari also performed a much improved and more settled test to give her another 70% + score. Mari is so focussed and will continue to go from strength to strength in the future, and I predict it will not be long before she is in the medal zone.

I am going to join the jumpers as they parade their way through the press engagements, BBC interviews with Clare Balding and finally, when all this has settle down, time to sit down with their owners and loved ones for a celebratory glass of fizz.
