Selection journey

I’m sorry to start on a bit of a negative by reflecting on the selection process – it was tough.

I have to admit that it was a massive disappointment to be told I was number five in the Olympic selection. It’s been my primary aim to come back – since I had my baby, the Olympics has been my was my drive to get back on a team. I knew I’d potentially not done enough in my competition preparations – Allstar B is a real performer at the very highest level and he really comes into his own at the major championships or at a big CCI5* such as Badminton or Burghley. I knew it was going to be hard without that type of competition to really get him fit, plus he doesn’t really show his best at the short-format one days. So, in some ways it wasn’t a huge, huge surprise not to be selected, but at the same time it was the moment where I felt I’d hit rock bottom.
